Review methodology

Where our data comes from

Our primary sources are manufacturer specification sheets, published third-party professional testing, and long-term owner feedback gathered from public forums and retail listings. Owner feedback is used as a lead-finding source: we read it to identify recurring issues, then summarise the pattern in our own words and cross-check it against the specifications or a second source. We do not reproduce customer reviews, and product listings are used only for reference data such as current price and aggregate rating, always labelled with the date they were captured.

How we score

Every review is scored against a published rubric: specification verification, real-world capability versus marketing claims, long-term ownership factors (warranty, software support, repair cost), and value at the current price. The rubric for each category is listed at the top of that category's comparison page.

Tested vs. research-based

Pages labelled Hands-on tested include measurements and photographs from units we used ourselves. Pages labelled Research-based are compiled from primary documents and independent testing, with sources cited on the page. We never describe research-based conclusions as first-hand experience.

How content is produced

Articles are drafted with AI assistance from source material supplied by our editors, then reviewed and fact-checked by a human editor before publication. All numbers — specifications, prices and ratings — are verified against the original source at review time.

Updates

Every page carries a "last updated" date. Prices are refreshed at least every 48 hours through automated data feeds and are labelled with the date they were captured. Review scores are revisited when products receive major firmware, hardware or price changes.
